HOW TO USE EARTHWORM CASTINGS?

Choose How You Want to Use Them
You can use worm castings in several ways:
• As a soil amendment (mix into soil)
• As a top dressing (sprinkle on top)
• In transplanting (help roots adapt)
• Make a worm casting tea (liquid fertilizer)
• Blend into potting mix (boost overall fertility)

Using Earthworm Castings – Methods

1. Mix into Soil Before Planting
How:
• Mix ¼ to ⅓ worm castings into your regular soil.
• Example: 1 part worm castings to 3 parts soil.
• Best for: New plantings, vegetable gardens, pots.
2. Top Dressing Existing Plants
How:
• Sprinkle ½–1 inch of worm castings on top of the soil around the plant.
• Gently water afterward to help nutrients seep down.
• Best for: Houseplants, outdoor beds, container plants.
3. When Transplanting Plants
How:
• Add a handful of worm castings directly into the planting hole.
• Set the plant on top, backfill with soil.
• Best for: Giving young plants or transplants a healthy start.
4. Make Worm Casting Tea
How:
• Mix about 1 cup of castings into 1 gallon of dechlorinated water.
• Let it steep for 12–24 hours, stirring occasionally.
• Strain and use to water plants or as a foliar spray.
• Best for: Boosting weak plants, foliar feeding, rapid nutrient absorption.
5. Blend into Potting Mix
How:
• When making your own potting soil, add 10–20% worm castings.
• Example mix: 40% peat moss, 30% perlite, 20% worm castings, 10% compost.
• Best for: Creating rich, living soil for seedlings and houseplants.

Quick Tips:

• Worm castings won’t burn plants — very safe, even if you add a little too much.
• Store castings in a cool, dark, breathable container (not sealed plastic) to keep microbes alive.
• Best time to use heavily: spring and early summer when plants are actively growing.
